Job Summary:

The Operations Manager is responsible for making sure the facility runs smoothly and efficiently. This includes meeting performance goals (KPIs), supporting the General Manager, and helping the site remain profitable and safe.

Main Duties:

1. Safety & Planning:

  1. Ensure the site follows all safety rules from the company, customer, and OSHA.
  2. Plan and conduct monthly safety training.
  3. Make sure employees wear the correct protective gear.
  4. Ensure compliance with D.O.T. rules.

2. Labor Management:

  1. Schedule staff based on production or customer needs.
  2. Use labor effectively, especially for value-added services.
  3. Reduce unnecessary labor to save costs.
  4. Track performance and train staff to increase productivity.
  5. Help reduce driver turnover and improve retention.

3. Coaching & Discipline:

  1. Enforce company rules and document any disciplinary actions.
  2. Keep HR updated with all employee discipline records.

4. Performance Monitoring (KPIs):

  1. Set performance goals based on customer needs.
  2. Monitor and adjust goals to improve results.
  3. Share updates with the team to stay on track.

5. Site Layout & Process Improvement:

  1. Work with management to improve warehouse layout.
  2. Watch for better space use and consolidate when possible.
  3. Create and maintain documents like work instructions and process maps.
  4. Provide organization charts to both staff and customers.

6. Budgeting & Financial Oversight:

  1. Prepare annual budgets for review.
  2. Monitor profit and loss reports monthly.
  3. Adjust as needed to stay profitable.

7. Staff Training & Development:

  1. Train and motivate staff to help them grow.
  2. Support continuous improvement.
  3. Recognize good performance and coach where needed.

8. Reporting:

  1. Provide reports based on what the customer wants.
  2. Track and share relevant data during review meetings.

Requirements:

  1. Able to speak clearly about operations in business meetings with customers.
  2. Willing to be on the warehouse floor around 70% of the time.
  3. Strong skills in collecting and analyzing performance data.
  4. Great communication skills (in person, by phone, email, or radio).
  5. Able to work in a fast-moving environment with equipment and forklift traffic.
  6. Knowledge of hazardous materials is helpful.
  7. Analytical thinker and strong problem-solver.
  8. Experience or ability to learn warehouse systems (like HighJump, SAP, Oracle).
  9. Comfortable using Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Preferred Experience:

  1. 5–7 years of leadership in logistics, distribution, or supply chain.
  2. Experience in food-grade facilities is a plus.
  3. Background in account management or managing budgets (P&L) is a bonus.
  4. Familiarity with HighJump WMS and SAP is a plus.
